CDC information on immunizations and vaccines

FOR ADULTS:

Being updated on immunizations protects the individual and anyone who is not able to be completely immunized including infants and those with compromised immune systems. Salem City Health District has the flu shot annual available to everyone; however, we only have a select few adult vaccines from the  317 program to provide to the population that is uninsured or underinsured.

All adults should be vaccinated against:

  • flu annually
  • tetanus every 10 years
  • pertussis (whooping cough)
  • shingles vaccine for adults age 60 and older

Insurance Coverage

Immunizations may be available at no cost if you are under-insured, or have no insurance. If you have insurance please call us to see if your immunizations will be covered or for guidance on how and where to get your vaccinations.

TB Screening Program

The Salem City Health Department offers a tuberculin screening program. Anyone applying to work or to volunteer in a healthcare setting is to be included in a TB testing screening program.

The purpose of the Tuberculin Skin Test (TST), or Mantoux Test screening program at Salem City Health District (SCHD), is to prevent the spread of Tuberculosis (TB) in the community. The first level of protection is early identification, and referral of potential positive reactions to the testing to a healthcare provider.

The cost of the TST is payable by cash or credit card (additional fee for using credit card) and is as follows:

  • 1 Step- $20.00
  • 2 Step- $35.00
